Historical Attractions in A Coruna, Galicia
Santiago de Compostela cathedral and the medieval old quarter within the city walls.
Famously described by the Spanish author Ramon Maria del Valle Inclan as 'a mystical stone rose' due to the winding streets, ancient monuments, museums and old buildings that surround the highly impressive 11th century cathedral and its squares. This area can be explored on foot, stopping to browse in the small boutiques or enjoy Galician 'tapas' in the unlimited, unpretentious taverns and restaurants in Rua do Franco and Rua do Vilar that welcome pilgrims and visitors year round with their inexpensive menus.
Noia centre and church.
Known as 'Little Compostela' a pretty town on the River Sonora with a rich history dating back to the Prehistoric Age. Find traces of its Roman and Middle Ages past. Today it plays host to some of the best 'fiestas' (street parties with funfares and live bands) on the annual calender.
